Martha Summa-Chadwick met Fred Engle in 1979 at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. Martha was a piano performance major from Paxton, Massachusetts, and Fred was a vocal performance major from nearby Dutchess County, New York. They immediately hit it off. Martha, being the perfect music student, and Fred, well, not being. Martha made Fred “practice,” and to this day, Martha still tells Fred to “practice, practice, practice.” From undergraduate school, Martha went on to achieve a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano with an emphasis in music therapy. She has become a leader in her field. Fred moved to Keyser, WV, to help his brother open a restaurant, where he met his wife, Sharon, had two children (Cole and Anna), and while he still performed some time, life got in the way. Martha and Fred are together again, after 45 years. Practicing via Zoom, texting ideas back and forth, and yes – occasionally having a martini together and talking about old friends, families, and how much time has gone by. This performance will be a mix of classical piano, Gershwin arrangements, Piazzolla, American Songbook, some Frank Sinatra tunes, “Ave Maria”, “How Great Thou Art”, Broadway show tunes (new and old), and a light-hearted afternoon of long friendship that began many years ago. Join us for this one-time “together again” look at the music and the times that have molded our lives together.
